For nearly 70 years, Russia has celebrated Builder's Day annually on the second Sunday in August. This year, construction professionals will celebrate their professional holiday on August 10th.
The initiator of the holiday's establishment was Nikita Khrushchev, First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee. It is believed that the idea came to him during a visit to the construction site of the Zhiguli Hydroelectric Power Station on the Volga. The Soviet leader was greatly impressed by the scale and pace of construction, and at a rally to celebrate the station's opening on August 10, 1955, Nikita Khrushchev announced the establishment of Builder's Day. A little later, on September 6 of that year, the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On the Establishment of the Annual Holiday 'Builder's Day'" was issued.
Builders' Day was first celebrated a year later, on August 12, 1956. A landmark event for Moscow—the opening of Luzhniki Stadium—was timed to coincide with this holiday. Everyone involved in the arena's construction, including builders, architects, and engineers, were invited to the opening ceremony. Since then, the tradition of inaugurating significant city facilities on Builders' Day has persisted.
Construction professionals play a significant role among MosBuild visitors. In 2025, the exhibition attracted 14,396 construction, design, and interior finishing professionals, along with 7,471 representatives of construction and finishing materials manufacturers. Together, they accounted for 26% of all MosBuild 2025 visitors. Construction professionals primarily sought building materials, equipment and tools, façade and roofing solutions, window technologies, and ceramics at the exhibition.
